Hike Details:

The Old Sauk River Trail rests just outside Darrington, WA and with three access points offers the perfect Sunday stroll no matter what the weather might bring. Moss draped forests and a mushroom hunters paradise, you can expect to spend a leisurely time forest bathing along the river’s banks.

My Hikes:

5/5-6/2018

We were on the Old Sauk this weekend for some saw skills certification and I was reminded at what a beautiful trail this is and so close to downtown Darrington.  We cleared some downed logs of the trail with the backdrop of the Sauk River roaring next to us.

The trail is well maintained with few obstacles as it meanders through the old growth timbers and there are several stops where you can take a rest at the river’s edge.  Remember there are 3 ways to access the trail with the middle trailhead having the most parking, ADA access, picnic tables and privy.

11/9/2014

This was the perfect rainy day ramble.  The first part of the trail is ADA and great for all hiking abilities. I was part of a Meetup group and we had a wonderful time walking along the Sauk River, looking for mushrooms and admiring the moss clinging to the old growth forest. We parked in the middle parking lot and did a loop at the south end but came back on the trail we went out on so we could stay close to the river.

Directions: From I-5, take Hwy 530 to exit 208, signed for Arlington/Darrington and drive Hwy 530 to Darrington. At the ‘T’ intersection in Darrington, turn right onto the Mountain Loop Hwy. There are three entrance points with the middle one at 5.4 miles from Darrington that has the large parking lot and bathroom facilities. You will need a Northwest Forest Pass.
