Hike details:

Cashmere Canyon preserve is a 2100-acre privately-owned preserve owned by Hay Canyon Ranch, LLC and co-managed by the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust. There is public access for hiking along 12 miles of trail system with sweeping views to the Enchantments, the Entiats, the Wenatchee Valley and down to the Columbia River. The preserve is open to hiking, trail running and snowshoeing but has restrictions to bikes and dogs in order to maintain the wilderness of the area.  There are two summits, Little Bear and Sunrise and 6 established trails looping over the slopes.

My trip report:

5/21/2021

I did about a mile on the trail at Cashmere Canyon as a leg stretcher on my way to Wenatchee with plans to come back when I have more time.

The dirt path started out at a new parking lot and privy, taking a newly etched trail around the contour of the slope to meet an old jeep trail that took off up the hill.

Wildflowers were long gone but the views out at the surrounding hills and valley were a variety of verdant tones.  In the short distance I walked there were intriguing bits, like a John Deere plow entangled in growth along the trail.

The humidity and sun going down drained any motivation I had to reach the ridge but on my next Cascade Loop, I will surely budget enough time to do so!

Directions: From the Nahahum Canyon Road turnoff from Highway 2, it is 2.4 miles north, on the left. Look for the parking area immediately before the road curves to the right. There is no parking allowed along Nahahum Canyon Road. There is a privy available and no parking pass is needed.

For more information about the preserve, you can visit the website of the land trust.

I recreate on the stolen ancestral lands of the Coast Salish, Stillaguamish, Snohomish and Tulalip peoples, lands held in time immemorial.  This land and its people must be protected and honored; their history, relationships and culture are not only of the past but are now and into the future, holding the key to proper stewardship.  Learn more here…
