Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

These are some of my pictures from our trip to Red Rock Canyon outside Las Vegas in January of 2022.  We had just a few hours before catching our flight home, I think this would make the perfect day adventure from Las Vegas.  You can expect lots of people and there is a timed entry system in place (I bought our pass that morning) in addition to an America The Beautiful pass.  I wrote more about our January trip through the Mojave National Preserve on the blog here.

I will be writing it up on the blog at some point but for now you can see it was a unique and colorful place. Similar to the Valley of Fire State Park visit I did in 2017, you could gaze at the red rock formations for hours. We had time to briefly hike Calico Hills and Turtlehead Peak before heading back to the airport so I hope it give it more time on my next trip to Vegas.

Red Rock Canyon is a day trip from Las Vegas and offers trails, climbing, camping, a visitor center and 13 mile scenic drive.  It is open year round but hours change for the season.

The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area [RRCNCA] is located just a few miles west of Las Vegas and encompasses 195,819 acres within the Mojave Desert. Red Rock Canyon is an area of worldwide geologic interest and beauty.

I recreate on the stolen ancestral lands of the Coast Salish, Stillaguamish, Snohomish and Tulalip peoples, lands held in time immemorial.  This land and its people must be protected and honored; their history, relationships and culture are not only of the past but are now and into the future, holding the key to proper stewardship.  Learn more here…
