SR 542-Mt Baker HWY

My first hike up SR 542-Mt Baker HWY was when I started hiking with my favorite Meetup group (unless you count that one time my family attempted snowshoeing/skiing at Baker). It just seemed like so far to drive.  How could I know the views were so worth it?  We were socked in!  With persistence, I have now been able to witness what makes that drive all worth it.

SR 542-Mt Baker HWY runs from the Bellingham area to the ski resort at Mount Baker.  The drive itself is gorgeous, rambling river views, moss draped trees and mountain after mountain. If you haven’t been up to see what it has to offer, I urge you to do so.  My favorite places to stop post hike with friends are North Fork Brewery, Chair 9, Boundary Bay, Fiamma Burger, La Fiamma Wood Fire Pizza, or just Pack A Cooler. You can learn more about these places in my Must Hike Must Eat Eating Out Guide.

Find out current conditions and as always, practice Leave No Trace.  Pretty Please.

I recreate on the stolen ancestral lands of the Coast Salish, Stillaguamish, Snohomish and Tulalip peoples, lands held in time immemorial.  This land and its people must be protected and honored; their history, relationships and culture are not only of the past but are now and into the future, holding the key to proper stewardship.  Learn more here…
