Hey! Hey you! Yes, you. Did you know Mother’s Day is coming up?? You are just in time to find seven hikes perfect for Mother’s Day in the Puget Sound!
There is no better day to take a mom on a hike! Whether it’s your biological mom, the mom of your children, or that special woman in your life who is the “mom you never had”, nothing says I love you like a hike on Mother’s Day.
These hikes are great for a range of abilities, especially if you have little ones with you. Between making mom breakfast and gathering with the family, don’t forget to save a little time for a wander in the outdoors with your special mom. All of these hikes are accessible without a forest road to drive up, are not on the overcrowded I-90 corridor and should be snow free. So if you live in the Puget Sound, get out on one of these seven hikes perfect for Mother’s Day in the Puget Sound.
Editor’s Note: Plan to get out EARLY if you want to avoid crowds. For the trail’s current conditions, the BEST resource is the Washington Trails Association website.

Heybrook Lookout or Ridge- Index, WA
Parking can be limited for Heybrook Lookout if you can’t arrive early, so head towards the town of Index and the parking for Heybrook Ridge which offers similar views.
Wallace Falls State Park- Gold Bar, WA
A good alternative in the area if the lot is full is the hike above, Al Borlin Park in Monroe, Paradise Valley Conservation Area or Lord Hill Regional Park below. Also, the truth is I only visit in the winter so my pictures reflect that because it is a wonderful year round hike.
Ebey’s Landing- Coupeville, WA
If crazy busy, try the Kettles below, Saratoga Woods Trail System or Double Bluff a bit further south on the island.
Kettles Trail System of Whidbey Island- Coupeville, WA
This trail network is adjacent to Fort Ebey State Park with a variety of interest points!
Little Mountain- Mount Vernon, WA
Open with a great network of trails but if it looks too busy for you, try Mount Erie near Anacortes. This is good alternative to Deception Pass, too.
Lord Hill Regional Park- Snohomish, WA
A large network of wide trails to roam! If pavement would make it easier for mom to get out, a walk around Lake Tye in Monroe is an option.
Lake Sylvia State Park- Montesano, WA
Make a loop around the lake and visit this covered bridge! The Capitol State Forest is a nearby alternative.
