Hikes and Stories

Wahoo, TGIF! These are just a few of my favorite articles and links this week.

Enjoy them. Then GET OUTSIDE!

Brown Girl Trekker

Lately, I have been drawn to alternate views of topics where I thought I had an idea of what something was or stood for but it turns out not everyone has or had the same view.  If you pay attention to all things outdoor, you couldn’t have missed the news about this event last year and how it moved from Utah.  I had seen some folks I follow talk about their experiences there but this one came from a differing perspective and one I think we need to listen to.

Love The Backcountry

Oh, Canada.  You are on my mind.  It seems like I see more amazing trips ideas around every corner and I want to visit you anew.  Of  course, I have to go and kick the North Coast Trail in the behind first but my list of other magnificent places is growing steadily.

Outdoor Society

Douglas Scott is passionate about the Olympic Peninsula but he is even more passionate about the need to protect our public lands.  He has been on fire in the past year and writes eloquently (and maybe a little in-your-face) about the importance of talking about and advocating for what is a non-negotiable: saving our country’s most valuable and non-renewable assets.

Hiking, Nature and Outdoor Recreation Is Political.  Period.

Strength and Sunshine

Do I need to say more than “whoopie”?!?  I know everyone is thinking about salads and keto diets right now (too close to January resolutions and thoughts about escaping to warm destinations in shorts and swimsuits) but come on, these look TO DIE FOR!  And, I love how they use one of my favorite little treats, coconut milk caramels from Cocomel’s.

Thirteen Thoughts

Do you find yourself caught up thinking you need to live by someone else’s agenda?  This was a great reminder to stay true to yourself by focusing on what is important to you and not what the world thinks you should be doing.

Jay’s Baking Me Crazy

I gave up my waffle iron quite awhile ago due to dormancy but this little recipe had me feeling a twinge of regret.  Now, technically I don’t think these are Whole 30 because I’m pretty sure they are SWYPO but I say go for it on day 31!  I may just have to try them fried up in the cast iron skillet…
