I eat my best when I am at home where I have the most control over what I eat. When I have time to plan, I will pack a cooler filled with good stuff to keep in the car. But I would be a social pariah if I never sat down to eat at a restaurant with friends after a hike.
One of my very first blog posts was to share my favorite eating stops after a hike. Eating out is a challenge in general when trying to eat healthy, let only trying to find a place close to a trailhead.
After 5 years, I have a collection of establishments where they serve at least one thing on the menu that I feel confident eating without having to compromise my health goals. And yes, some of these are what I would consider a “treat” and not part of my daily eating routine. With limited places to eat out that serve exactly what I would eat at home, sometimes I just have to do the best I can. That may mean simply eating gluten free, organic or local sourced ingredients.
This was my first post on the delicious places I love to stop at both before and after hiking adventures in the Pacific Northwest listed by major roadway and I now have a Pacific Northwest Eating Guide you can download, check it out over here.
These are posts I have written since then on new establishments I have discovered:
Mirkwood Public House
Pacific Pizza
Skagit Valley Food Co-op
Blue Heron Cheese Company
Pelican Pub & Brewery
Base Camp Books & Bites
River Time Brewing
Shambala Bakery and Bistro
Glorybucha Microbrewery
